Living in Batavia, Illinois,
Dan and Sue Wasilas have two beautiful daughters, two loveable
Labs, and a fiery little Yorkie (not to mention a guinea pig,
dozens of fish, and even a pony). Dan is a successful
businessman running a busy insurance brokerage in Arlington
Heights. As for Sue, she is very fortunate to be able
to work from home while taking care of her daughters, her pets
and even her husband.
Dr. Kimbrough Clarke has been a chiropractor for the past
twenty years working to improve the quality of his patient's
lives. Dogs for disabilities presents an opportunity to accomplish
this goal in a different form, with equal significance in terms
of providing meaningful opportunities to create a positive
change in people's lives replacing disability with ability.
He lives in Northern IL with his wife, Marge, and son who is
attending his first year of college. He and Marge have been
dog lovers for many years and are grateful to Sue and Dan for
allowing the opportunity of this philanthropic venture.
The Wasilas's along with Kimbrough Clarke started Dogs for
Disabilities, inc. because of a tremendous love for animals
and a great desire to help people.
After researching many avenues of canine care and helping people,
Dan and Sue found a need for service dogs amongst the disabled
population. Wanting to learn more they tackled the internet,
made many phone calls, and talked to numerous people involved
with service dogs and people with disabilities. They
found the biggest problems in acquiring a service dog is cost
and time. Each dog roughly is valued at 15,000-20,000
dollars and can take an extensive amount of time to train.
It
is now their goal to provide highly trained service dogs to
the physically disabled enabling them to lead a more functional
and independent life at no cost.
